Animal lovers Jason and Emma tie the knot at Burntwood Court!
Jason and Emma met online back in 2014 and their engagement followed one year later. What was a swift engagement soon turned into a 10 year wait before the happy couple would finally say their I Do’s. Both animal lovers with a similar sense of humour, this pair don’t take life too seriously.
When asked about their engagement story, Jason told us how the proposal happened in Egypt, on the beach at sunset. ‘On our first date, we watched David Attenborough together and he was looking at penguins and talking about how they’re monogamous and only have one partner for life’, Jason says.
‘The male will scour the beach looking for the perfect pebble to then lay at the feet of the female, and if she deems it good enough, they’re hooked for life’. This is how the engagement would happen.
Jason had grabbed a pebble from his mum’s garden before the holiday, then pretended to pick it up and placed it at Emma’s feet on the beach; Emma said yes and jumped into his arms.
There was no rush to get married, hence the gap, but as relatives were getting older, the pair decided it was time to tie the knot.
The Planning
Jason and Emma had been to other venues but Burntwood sealed the deal. ‘Everything aligned there for us’, Jason says, ‘We could get married and have the breakfast and evening reception all in one place’.
The pair commented how amazing the grounds were, and the onsite chapel is simply stunning.
For them, Burntwood Court Hotel was the perfect base between where both of their families lived, with accommodation onsite making the whole process run smoothly.
The Wedding Day
When the big day arrived, it was a bright and sunny day with blue skies.
Emma and her bridal party had stayed overnight at Burntwood Court, while Jason came on the day.
Something funny happened while we were steaming the dresses’, Emma says, ‘We set the fire alarms off, so had to go down to reception and alert them and assure them there’s no fire to prevent evacuation!’.
Cool calm and collected, Jason met one of the wedding coordinators, Steve in the morning and had drinks while he waited for guests to arrive.
‘It was my first opportunity to make sure the reception room was dressed how we wanted it, it was perfect and took me back to when we saw it on our first visit to Burntwood’, Jason says.
Just before the ceremony, James Lomas played the piano as guests came into the chapel, which helped set the tone and ambience’.
Emma admits she was really nervous but there was no need to be as the ceremony ran smoothly, after which the newly married couple had photos while guests enjoyed canapés and champagne.
Something stuck with the pair about the advice they’d been given by relatives; ‘One of our family members said to remember all the day as it goes so quick, but we thought it was just another day. It’s not until it’s your own wedding day that you realise how true that is.’
The happy couple and their guests then had the wedding breakfast and speeches from Emma’s dad, Jason and his brother who was best man.
Jason and Emma praised the venue catering as the food was wonderful and arrived without delay. James Lomas played throughout, then got all the guests up doing a conga with the bride leading the way. They then had a ‘sing off’ with the room being split in half. ‘James said I had to cast the final vote and decide between my half or Emma’s, obviously I had to vote for my new wife and her side’, Jason says.
The reception room was then transformed for the evening’s festivities. The cake was cut, followed by the first dance to A Thousand Years by Christina Perri. Jason and Emma had over 100 guests in total at night time, with pearlescent glow sticks being given to guests to help them party the night away.
It was a celebratory evening with an eclectic playlist thanks to Burntwood’s own in house DJ. When the party was done, the happy couples stayed in the honeymoon suite onsite and enjoyed breakfast the next morning with close family and friends.
When asked about the team at Burntwood Court Hotel, the couple could not praise them enough.
‘From start to finish they were polite and accommodating and cared about making our day perfect for us. They were happy to bend and flex to what we wanted; for example, two days before, we had to redo the entire seating plan. We met Steve, one of the coordinators and they made all the adjustments no questions asked. Their communication perfect and they kept checking on us throughout the day. Steve was brilliant, his professionalism is second to none. He was orchestrating everything making sure it ran perfectly, which it did thanks to him’.
Jason added that even at the initial booking, there was no pressure, ‘The whole team were very sincere and calm in what they did.’
When asked what advice they’d give other couples, Jason says, ‘If you’re worried about where to have your venue or unsure, pay Steve at Burntwood a visit and make your life easy.’
And Emma’s advice? ‘Have your wedding all in one place, it makes it so easy.’
